Crazy
Anglos and Levitate 12/01/07 at
the Masquerade
review
by BandBunny.com korrespondent Diablo:
As
I remember it, music has always had a purpose. In the past
years, I have seen a decline in the passion that drives
artists towards that purpose. When I began promoting music,
it wasn't just something to do for the time being. I felt
that purpose and drove towards it with fearless determination!
The purpose was clear: to promote and push the best music
I know and expose the fans to something they can feel, so
that the faith can be restored to the industry.
On
December 1st of 2007 my faith, along with maybe hundreds
of others, was restored. On that night, 800 bad ass music
enthusiasts felt the music. I arrived at the venue around
the time of 9pm and it wasn't a surprise to see that the
place was already on fire from the earlier acts leading
up to the main attraction. Upon my arrival I had the opportunity
to catch a band I was not particularly aware of and, to
my surprise, they showed great poise and stage presence.
Levitate was nothing short of astounding. The smooth vocals
from lead singer Judson George was real "music" to the ears.
Complimented by band members Matt, Chris and Jeremy, Levitate
forms a very innovative purpose that is sure to go far.
During
the intermission you could almost feel the energy begin
to build throughout the crowd. The Fanatics began to gravitate
towards the stage in anticipation of the upcoming phenomenon.
The Crazy Anglos, a group that I have had the pleasure of
seeing a number of times prior to this show, brought something
different in the air on this particular night. Before taking
the stage I noticed how the band interacted with the crowd
and spoke with each of the enthusiast in attendance. It's
vital for a band to have a certain bond with their fans,
either personally or through their music; The Anglos manage
to accomplish both with ease. I make my way to the front
of the crowd for a close view of the band as they take the
stage. John O' Leary, Bryan Bozeman, Brandon Parker, Danny
Helm, and Kevin Compton were all there and happy to be home!
The energy that radiated from the Crew engulfed the crowd
and we all knew it was time to ROCK! The band pulled out
some of their old songs as well as a couple of Covers, on
which they put their own Anglos twist; most notable this
night being their rendition of Bodies by Drowning Pool and
Crank that Soulja Boy by Soulja boy. Even though those previously
mentioned songs moved the crowd and flexed the floor, the
song that stole the Night was none other than Fight the
System. With razor sharp lyrics and killer riffs, Fight
the System really managed to imprison the moment sealing
the show as one of the Anglos most electrifying shows to
date. If you have ever doubted the passion found in music,
disbelieve no longer; the Anglos are reassurance that Great
artists produce Great music and purpose.
oh
and here's a video of the Crazy Anglos from the show:

City
Sleeps CD release party 10/12/07
review
by BandBunny.com korrespondent Megan:
my
grrl Megan waz at the City Sleeps CD Release Party at my
favorite spot, The Masquerade Oktober 12th. here'z her review
of the show: "The Drownouts, The Futerists, Last November,
and City Sleeps all played. All the bands did an amazing
job. They all kept the crowd amped. I got a chance to talk
with some of the guys from Last November and City Sleeps.
They are really cool guys, not to metion they are gorgeous.
The singer of City Sleeps got a crowd of people to go on
stage to sing along, and he went out in the crowd to stand
with everyone else that couldn't fit onstage. It was an
outstanding show and I would recommend going to see any
of these bands if you ever have the chance."
Shiny
Toy Guns show 9/20/07 at the Masquerade Music Park
you
know how sum bandz never sound the same live? well...that
wazn't the kase with Shiny Toy Guns' performance at The Masquerade
Music Park on september 20th. both visually and sonically
stunning, they kruised thru their seamless set effortlessly
with the presence of an arena band but without the pretension.
they
paused briefly to thank a special fan in the audience who
had made them a gift and interakted with the krowd with
an earnestness that iz too often lacking in bandz. chad
and carah'z vokalz were krisp, klean and bold. my only komplaint...their
set waz far too short- i waz left wanting more. but...i
suppoze that'z alwayz a good thing...

Ozma
show 9/20/07 at the Masquerade Music Park
review
by BandBunny.com korrespondent Kochis:
It
was with great anticipation and excitement I waited for
Ozma to take the stage at The Masquerade Music Park. Although
a longtime fan from their days on mp3.com, I had never seen
them live before. The show opened with "Eponine", a good
choice since it is the first single from their latest album
Pasadena. They followed with "Rocks" which gave me hope
they would play some early songs like "Lorraine" or "Battlescars".
Not this night, but the band played a good mix of songs
from all of their albums including "Domino Effect",
"Landing of Yuri Gagarin", and "Korobeiniki
(the Tetris song)" in their super short 25 minute set.
Although
smushed together on stage- no doubt because of Shiny Toy
Guns and Blue October's gear, the band was incredibly tight
and if you closed your eyes it was almost like listening
to one of their studio tracks. I should say they do not
make bands much like this anymore. And I don't believe the
crowd knew what they were seeing. There was a sense of disconnection
between the crowd and band. An outdoor festival was probably
not an ideal venue for Ozma's music. Save that for the likes
of Yellowcard...
All
and all the show was straight forward Ozma at their best
(see the following video clip to see what I mean).
The
Rentals 9/01/07
Matt
Sharp kept hiz promise to Atlanta--for the sekond consekutive
year, The Rentals turned in a stellar performance at The
Masquerade. Akkompanied by their friend from GoldenBoy,
they performed a high-energy set inkluding popular dittyz
such az "Friends of P", "Keep Sleeping",
one of my favz "I Just Threw Out The Love Of My Dreams"
az well az a new kut "Life Without A Brain" off
their latest EP, Last Little Life.
Matt
Sharp'z energetic performance galvanized the enamored krowd
who enthuziastikally complied with hiz appealz to "Dance
wildly, but don't hurt each other". The band'z playful
interaktionz on-stage and with the krowd embodied Matt'z
passionate performance, kreating a surprizingly intimate
experience given the expansive sonic effect of the performance.
Matt'z guileless exuberance waz reminiscent of early Moz
and kulminated in hiz earnest promise to meet with fanz
post-show. I'll admit it--the "Ladykiller" got
the Band Bunny. Question iz, kan Matt make it three konsekutive
yearz? I'm willing to find out...see you next year Matt.

Southside
Music Festival
so
i waz talkin’ to my partner in krime Kimi Kimmerz
about the Southside Music Festival. it waz soo krazy i asked
her write it all down for all you bytchez...
“First off, let me explain I was a volunteer at the
festival and so I had to work not just enjoy the music.
I helped out with the merch tent and selling raffle tix.
They gave away a leather jacket, grill, hockey puck, Braves
tix, 2 Sacred Heart Tattoo gift certs, and Cheez gave away
a motorcyle. The proceeds from entry and the raffle went
to Blue Knights charities, and the proceeds from the raffle
for the bike went to the Friends of Scozz Foundation. With
that being said, the merch tent was at the top of the hill
Friday night but it was down closer to the stage on Saturday,
so the In The Pitz deetz (as Band Bunny callz them) are
more in depth for Saturday....
I do want to make sure to give credit to all the bands that
donated their time to this cause and dealt with the heat,
although some of them I wasn't up front to see... Friday
night opened up with Omnibus and then I got to hear Green
Bracelet for the first time (chick fronted bands rock!),Thanks
to Herb Jones for gracing the stage and I took a break from
the merch tent and went down to check out the Alan Yates
band who rocked the ....well, it was more of a parking lot
than a house... anyway, I loved this band, they really rocked
and when Alan told us they had two more songs left because
there were some other really good band that were going to
play I yelled out "You can play all night long"....
and they started playing Lionel Richie's song "All
Night Long".... I introduced One With a Bullet and
said a little about about Scozz and Mary Beth and the motorcyle
raffle, by the way they are working on a cd right now...Then
Hanoman with the very delicious Jordan...and Armchair victim.
While we did get a little Tayl, unfortunately their set
was cut short by the police due to some noise ordinance
and it being midnight or something... but you can check
out their website for upcoming shows...
Saturday was HOTTTTT so thanks to all who joined me in the
smoltering heat to support our local bands and The Blue
Knights and The Friends of Scozz Foundation... Anna Nicole
Miner's Daughter opened up the day with Juicy Jen rockin
out... I saw Jay Jay the Alligator out in the audience somewhere...
Then The Quarryrats took the stage, these guys kicked butt
and I really like their sound.... Blacksmithz never disappoint
with "Stand Up" and "Feel my Vibe"-
I love Money and Animal and bass player Worm is the most
fun bass player around that guy moves all over the stage
and has so much fun and is so fun to watch!...Optymus Blue
rocked the stage followed by Southern Crush in right in
the middle of the heat wave. Rhonda Rocks! And Gyro always
looks like he is having so much fun beating on those drums!
I spray some water on everyone else in the audience to try
to cool us off a little bit...they had a little help from
D-Rock, always a crowd pleaser... Then it was my boys' turn.
Jackhammer. Scratch and the boys did not disappoint. The
Freight Train was right on time, with a brand new hot-off-the
press CD and T-shirts for the audience! A little help on
a cover from Rhonda of Southern Crush and Shelby from Tayl...Girl
Rock Stars + Jackhammer = HOTT HOTT HOTT...The Asphalt Valentine
show was a farewell to hottie guitar player Cory Orlando...
of course Strip Rock Roll Repeat was crowd pleaser and so
was Cory as he jumped off stage and onto a motorcyle to
play his guitar for a bedazzled crowd. The guitar pic he
used for his last show is on ebay, one of the Atlanta Rock
Family items being auctioned for the Friends of Scozz Foundation,
for details check out Cheez on Kimi Kimmerz friend page
he's kinda running the whole Ebay thing.
...Then we took a huge pic of the AV family and fans a "farewell"
pic and hey, Austin, I'm still waiting for a copy of that
pic... I am a new Side Seat Driver fan, Fran and the boys
rocked out, you have got to check out this band's site and
their songs, they are awesome!... Karen and I joined The
Hot Rods on stage for "I Can't Stand You", they
are as fun as ever and their new drummer PAT rocks!!!...
The Issues were fantastic! Those guys "bring it"
every time! The Hot Rods jumped on stage and danced- who
can't dance when The Issues are rockin'? Emcee Chris Lee
went out in the audience and grabbed a bunch of us girls
to help out onstage with "Fuck Me Pumps"- It was
a bit crowded onstage, but very much fun! I must confess
during the Unusual Suspects and Starfish and Coffee gigs
I was backstage sitting with my feet in some rock star's
lap, I was exhausted from a day and half of walking around
selling raffle tix and dancing... but I heard you guys and
you were awesome! I wasn't up front, but I enjoyed the music
immensely! I want to mention The Phage, although I had to
leave before they played their set, I want them mentioned
for donating their time and talent to this cause and shout
out to Brenda, Dick, Angie, Delaine and Leisa for all their
hard work in putting the Southside Music Festival together
this year... it was fun!

but
WAIT---there’z more!!! ...and the Summer Music Festival
at Prague in Motion:
I sent Wango an email"uh oh"... said i thought
they were playing sat it's 6:15 i guess i'm gonna jump in
the shower and head down to ten hi"... he answered
back to be sure to dress (wear Fuck Me Pumps).... so I picked
Karen up and we went to Ten High and hung out with the band
before the show... I did wear my Fuck Me Pumps... it was
a great show! We were gonna stay to see The Swear because
we hadn't seen them in awhile, but when we found out they
were last, Karen didn't want to stay out that late so we
followed Dick and Brenda to The Midnight Room to see The
Hot Rods...which turned out to be the mostest fun!! There
weren't many people there, it was a very intimate setting,
when they were gettin on stage I got up and said into the
mic "Vegas Dave is lookin really hot tonight"
and it was on! Andrew was such a good sport about it, I
was giving commentary in the mic all night, I mean it was
just all friends there! When Karen and I got on stage for
Girl on Girl Action, Andrew wrapped the mic cord around
us about 3-4 times, that was funny! And we started a new
tradition which we took even further Saturday night... when
they sang "Sucker" (about guys spending money
at strip clubs), Brenda and I "tucked" money in
Andrew's waistline... new tradition! When they were done
I informed them via the mic that the set list says "encore"
and listed the two additional songs!
Saturday night, got to Prague to see Dakota Fate which really
rocked! Then when the Hot Rods played, we got more people
involved, we actually got a picture of Andrew's wife tucking
him! I got on stage and danced with The Blacksmithz when
Animal was doing his solo set... Rhonda and Gyro and Mitch
with Southern Crush totally rocked as always!
